There are so many options for hotels in Chicago. I live in downtown Chicago and want to share my recommendations, as a local. I’ve stayed in many of them. For your visit to Chicago, you will want to be where the action is, where you can easily get around safely by taxi, Uber, train, bus or by walking, and where you can experience all of the must see attractions.
The downtown area is where you want to be! There are some great hotels along the Chicago River and along the Magnificent Mile that will make your trip memorable. There are also some hotels near these areas to consider.
My Recommendations:
- London House – This hotel is ideally located right along the Chicago River and very close to Michigan Avenue. They have incredible views and an amazing rooftop bar as well as great restaurants within the hotel. It has rooms of various sizes to accommodate families and it has some very nice amenities. Rates can vary but you can usually book this hotel in the $200-$300 per night range.
- Another hotel with amazing views is The Wade Chicago – This hotel is right off Lake Shore Drive just north of Navy Pier. I’ve stayed here a few times. Ask for a room with a view and you will not be disappointed! It’s a modern trendy hotel with a cool lobby bar and some of the rooms have funky furniture like long retro couches.
- The Gwen in Chicago is known for its sophisticated Art Deco design that beautifully captures the city’s architectural history. Its prime location on the Magnificent Mile offers unparalleled access to premier shopping, dining, and cultural attractions. The hotel’s reputation for exceptional service and stylish ambiance, combined with its unique rooftop terrace providing stunning city views, promises a memorable and luxurious Chicago experience.
- The Chicago Athletic Association Hotel offers a unique and stylish experience steeped in history. Housed in a landmark 1890s building, it boasts stunning Gothic architecture and meticulously restored interiors. Its prime location on Michigan Avenue provides easy access to Millennium Park and other downtown attractions. It’s right next to the famous Chicago Bean! With multiple acclaimed restaurants and bars, including Cindy’s Rooftop bar and restaurant with panoramic city views, and a vibrant social scene. This hotel provides a very Chicago type of stay.
- Loews Chicago Hotel provides a contemporary and upscale experience in the heart of the city. Its sleek, modern design and spacious rooms offer comfort and style, while its location in the Streeterville neighborhood puts you within easy reach of Navy Pier and the Magnificent Mile. With excellent on-site dining options, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and stunning views of the Chicago skyline and lake, Loews Chicago is a gerat place to stay.
- On the luxury side, I would recommend The Langham and the St Regis. Both are more expensive but offer luxury if that is what you are looking for and are ideally located. The St Regis is a newer hotel set in a modern skyscraper designed by Jeanne Gang. Both of these hotels promise an unforgettable and indulgent stay, perfect for discerning travelers seeking the finest Chicago has to offer.
- The Godfrey Hotel Chicago offers a stylish and contemporary experience in the vibrant River North neighborhood. Its striking Cubist-inspired architecture and chic, modern interiors create a sophisticated atmosphere. With a popular rooftop lounge providing stunning city views, a lively bar scene, and comfortable, well-appointed rooms, The Godfrey promises a trendy and energetic stay, ideal for travelers seeking a fashionable Chicago experience while still being close to key attractions.
- The Sable Hotel is located at Navy Pier. You will be close to all that Navy Pier and the Lakefront has to offer and will have a premium view to the weekly fireworks in the summer.
- If you are more budget conscious you should consider the following hotels:
- HI Chicago Hostel
- Warwick Allerton Chicago
- Millenium Nickerbocker
- Hotel St Clair – Mag Mile
- Club Quarters (great location and good option for solo travelers)
